Orthopedics
Ask ten laypersons what "orthopedic" means and they may have ten different answers, drawn from their own experiences or those of people they know. Some may assume it refers solely to the spine. Others may believe it concerns the neck or cervical area. Others still may associate it with ankle boots and similar casts. The truth is that orthopedics concerns the musculoskeletal system, which encompasses all these parts of the body and more.
As such, there is a great variety of orthopedic products out there. We mentioned ankle boots and leg casts, but there are also casts for everything from the neck to the wrist. Hernia belts and abdominal binders go around the waist. Immobilizers keep the knee or elbow from bending, allowing them to heal.
